Xperia mini Pro

The Sony Xperia Mini Pro (Not to be mistaken for the X10 Mini Pro), is the keyboard equipped version of the Xperia mini that lanced last week. With so many Mini’s out there from Sony Ericsson it can be quite confusing especially considering the Mini Pro was code named “Mango” for the last few months. So just to be clear the Xperia Mini range is a small version of their popular Android powered Xperia smartphones. Rather then the usual format of adding numbers or letters to signify an upgrade Sony Ericsson have dropped the X10 from the newest model and is simply called Xperia Mini Pro. Hopefully that clears up any confusion over the name.

So now that we’re sure this is in fact a latest mobile phone, what does it have offer? Well for a small Android handset it’s got a pretty powerful processor. It’s main competitor the HTC wildfire S comes with a 600 MHz processor and is no slouch with a very smooth and responsive menu system.

The Mini Pro however has a 1GHz Scorpion processor which is almost double that of the other micro Androids out there. So the handset is 92 x 53 x 18mm and has only grown 5mm overall compared to it’s predecessor the X10 mini pro. What else have they squeezed into that extra 5mm, well you get 512mb of ram along with 400MB of internal storage. The phone will come bundled with a 2GB SD card and will accept up to 32GB. You also get a bigger screen 3.0 inches instead of the previous 2.55 inches. The graphics are powered by the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine which gives it truly stunning graphics for such a small phone. The camera hasn’t seen an upgrade but is till a hugely respectable 5 Megapixels with flash, however thanks to the improved processor you can record 720p video with ease. A secondary VGA camera has also been added for good measure. Wifi, GPS and all the other goodies you’d expect in a full sized smartphone make it into the Xperia mini pro as well as the full QWERTY keyboard for those that aren’t ready to give up on the joy of actually pressing buttons. When the x10 mini pro launched last year it was marketed as having a “Limited” version of android namely 1.6 (donut) and was destined to live it’s life with limited potential. The Xperia Mini Pro however gets the latest version of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has the hardware for future upgrades.
